“And I dreamed that I asked, can we ever go back? But your words weren’t clear.” I have that desire to make things work but my experience has been that once things get to a certain point there is no going back. The third verse very much reminded me of these particular feelings. I always feel like somehow things can go back to being good so I don’t want to leave. In both of these instances it took someone telling me what I wanted to hear perhaps even subconsciously but once I heard it, I was able to steer away and move on from the never-ending road I was on. The chorus speaks of not being able to steer away from “it” I have been in more than one situation where the “it” was a relationship which I was stuck in but couldn’t see it or I felt like I couldn’t escape. Starting with the second verse we begin to hear references to cars and driving which occur throughout the song. Lisa Ritchie writes so poetically I always feel like I am only getting the tip of the iceberg and there is so much more that I do not comprehend. I am not going to pretend I fully understand all there is to glean in this song. Speaking of complexities this track most definitely has layers of its own as it speaks about love on a different part of the emotional spectrum.

I am okay with that and it only makes me more interested in hearing and studying the perspectives of others on the matter.

When you are experiencing it make things seem so much clearer yet it can also cause things to become cloudy and grey I am certain that I will ever have a full understanding of the complexities of love. It can be incredibly difficult to define but you know when you feel it. Love is such a fascinating thing it is comprised of thoughts, emotions and physical feelings as well. I especially love the line “…it wasn’t one week later, you tried to scare me off, you said I think I love you and I said love is enough…” with love sometimes you just know, other times you are just willing to take the risk and sometimes it is a combination of both. There is an amount of apprehension as love is always a risk and you can feel that in both the lyrics and the melody behind them.

I am blown away by how well this track portrays the feelings associated with a budding relationship. This is true of her newest single “The Beginning”. Alanna illustrates this well in her music she has not only created songs which fall into various categories on loves emotional spectrum, but individually her songs will take you on an emotional journey. Love encompasses a wide spectrum of emotions as does the various parts of love whether it be falling in love, falling out of love, breaking up etc.
